Ontario is providing $16 million over three years to fund 1,000 supportive housing units for people with substance use issues or concurrent disorders.  This client-centered supportive housing program includes services based on the “Housing First” model for a harm-reduction.

The Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is delighted to announce, with the endorsement of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, substantial investments in our community sector under the Aging at Home Strategy for 2009/10.  The Mississauga Halton LHIN is receiving $24.9 million in 2009/10 for a number of initiatives to help seniors live healthy, independent lives in their own homes and to decrease the number of alternate level of care (ALC) patients in hospitals.
 
Apr 24, 2009April 24 2009 - Balanced Community Sector Agreements Approved in MH LHIN
The Mississauga Halton LHIN Board of Directors has now approved the Multi-Sector Service Accountability Agreements (M-SAAs) of 43 community health service providers for the fiscal years 2009-10 and 2010-11.  The approval of these agreements represents the conclusion of a new process for accountability between the LHIN and community service providers.
 
Apr 14, 2009Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding - April 14, 2009
To support hospitals in ensuring that their facilities are in a good state of repair, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care established the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) in 1999.  For 2008/09, the Mississauga Halton LHIN has approved over $1 million in HIRF grants to our three local hospitals.
 
Oct 17, 2008News Release - Wait Times Strategy Expands - Oct.17, 2008
Ontario is setting the most aggressive wait time targets for general surgeries in Canada as part of an expansion of its successful Wait Time Strategy.  General surgery targets are being set for procedures such as gall bladder removal, hernia repairs, anorectal and some intestinal surgeries. Targets are also being set for orthopaedic and ophthalmic surgeries.  Targets for each surgery are set in four categories, ranging from urgent to elective surgery.  Where urgent surgery is required, targets are less than 24 hours for general and ophthalmic surgeries and one week for orthopaedic surgery.

Medworxx, the makers of a strategic software platform that hospitals use to communicate, aggregate, and analyze knowledge, is excited to announce that the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) will roll out the Medworxx Utilization Management System to support their utilization management program.  The implementation will include Halton Healthcare Services Corporation, The Credit Valley Hospital, and the Trillium Health Centre. 
 
Sep 8, 2008Increasing Direct Daily Care PSW funding announcement - updated 8.09.08
As part of Ontario’s $23.3 million investment to support the creation of 873 personal support workers (PSWs), the Mississauga Halton LHIN will receive nearly $1.3 million for over 94,000 hours of care for area long-term care homes. This will increase the average paid hours of direct daily care per resident to 3.26 hours this year of nursing, personal care and programming and support services.

The Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (MH LHIN) is launching the next phase of community engagement activities which will inform the LHIN’s Integrated Health Service Plan’s priority of enhancing seniors’ health, wellness and quality of life, as well as the local Aging at Home Strategy.  The initial community consultation will be held on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Mississauga Central Library.

Standing in front of seven new Dodge Caravans that will provide area seniors with rides to appointments, George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, today announced a series of local Aging at Home initiatives which are receiving close to $6.4 million this year.
 
May 8, 2008Preventing Falls in Our Seniors Population
In 2007, a Falls Prevention Steering Committee was established to develop a falls prevention framework and strategy for the LHIN that would ultimately reduce the rate of ED visits, hospitalizations and long-term care admissions among seniors in Mississauga Halton.  Two resource guides have been developed from the project, and include: a framework for falls prevention, an inventory of falls prevention efforts in Mississauga Halton, and links/references to best practices in falls prevention by sector...
