Caregiver ReCharge Services: In-Home Respite in the Mississauga Halton LHIN
The Caregiver ReCharge Service (CRS) is funded by the Mississauga Halton LHIN and provides temporary relief to primary caregivers supporting loved ones with high needs in order to prevent caregiver stress and burnout as a result of caregiving activities. In-home respite services allows caregivers to take a break while a paid caregiver temporarily assumes the care giving responsibilities in the comfort of their own home.
The service has proven to reduce emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalization of the care recipient, reduce long-term care home placement and reduce caregiver stress. Approximately $860,000 health care dollars were saved as a result of avoiding or delaying institutionalization by providing in home respite services to informal caregivers in 2013.
