2015 Partnering for a Healthier Tomorrow Awards Recipient: Enhanced Community Capacity

The Mississauga Halton LHIN Regional Learning Centre is a new initiative that is strengthening the skills and abilities of direct care providers including informal caregivers in local communities through education, development and focused learning.

Created to enhance the skills of community members and achieve a higher standard of care in the region, the community education team developed and delivered 14 new modules to front-line workers, supervisors and directors. Between June 2014 and March 2015, 99 on-site training sessions were held. In addition, 22 health service providers from the community support services sector sent at least one staff member to a training session during this period.

Sessional evaluations have been positive, with participants indicating that the training is highly applicable to their respective roles in the community. Now in the second year, attendance continues to be strong and valuable knowledge continues to be shared; Spring 2015 had 22 on-site training sessions, with 211 spaces filled.
